The Baseball Hall of Fame Gets its Due at the US Mint

The National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown New York is finally getting its due recognition by the United States Mint. Established in 1939, the Cooperstown Museum will reach its 75-year anniversary next year and with it, a commemorative coin that promises to be world-class. It’s not unusual for the Mint to recognize great events through commemoratives, and the profit is typically donated to the named event, person or in this case the Cooperstown Baseball Hall of Fame. There are literally hundreds of commemorative coins, some for great athletes (the Jackie Robinson commemorative gold coin is recognized as one of the modern Mint’s “100 greatest coins”), some for great events such as the 1992 Olympics commemorative coin, and now for great organizations such as the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
